Priest in Snow, 1900-10
Kamisaka Sekka 1866-1942
A priest is walking in the deep snow against strong wind.
This design was made by Sekka or by his studio work. It is a preparatory design for his woodblock print ‘The priest Nichiren in the snow, when he was exiled to Sado Island. Sekka contributed the design to the album ‘Shinzuan (New designs)’ in 1892-1894. Mor information, please see: Donald A.
